We prove a topological rigidity theorem for closed hypersurfaces of the Euclidean sphere and of an elliptic space form. It asserts that, under a lower bound hypothesis on the absolute value of the principal curvatures, the hypersurface is diffeomorphic to a sphere or to a quotient of a sphere by a group action. We also prove another topological rigidity result for hypersurfaces of the sphere that involves the spherical image of its usual Gauss map.

We introduce the notion of Lie invariant structure Jacobi operators for real hypersurfaces in the complex quadric $Q^{m}=SO_{m+2}/SO_{m}SO_{2}$. The existence of invariant structure Jacobi operators implies that the unit normal vector field $N$ becomes $\mathfrak{A}$-principal or $\mathfrak{A}$-isotropic. Then, according to each case, we give a complete classification of real hypersurfaces in $Q^{m}=SO_{m+2}/SO_{m}SO_{2}$ with Lie invariant structure Jacobi operators.

A new method for classifying naturally reductive spaces is presented. This method relies on a new construction and the structure theory of naturally reductive spaces recently developed by the author. This method is applied to obtain the classification of all naturally reductive spaces in dimension 7 and 8.

We prove that a reduced and irreducible algebraic surface in $\mathbb{CP}^{3}$ containing infinitely many twistor lines cannot have odd degree. Then, exploiting the theory of quaternionic slice regularity and the normalisation map of a surface, we give constructive existence results for even degrees.

We classify up to automorphisms all left-invariant non-Einstein solutions to the Einstein–Maxwell equations on four-dimensional Lie algebras.

The object of this paper is to study Yamabe solitons on almost co-Kähler manifolds as well as on $(k,\unicode[STIX]{x1D707})$-almost co-Kähler manifolds. We also study Ricci solitons on $(k,\unicode[STIX]{x1D707})$-almost co-Kähler manifolds.

In this note we consider parabolic subroot systems of a complex simple Lie Algebra. We describe root theoretic data of the subroot systems in terms of that of the root system and we give a selection of applications of our results to the study of generalized flag manifolds.

This paper is concerned with support theorems of the X-ray transform on non-compact manifolds with conjugate points. In particular, we prove that all simply connected 2-step nilpotent Lie groups have a support theorem. Important ingredients of the proof are the concept of plane covers and a support theorem for simple manifolds by Krishnan. We also provide examples of non-homogeneous 3-dimensional simply connected manifolds with conjugate points which have support theorems.

We prove that a compact subset of full measure on a generic submanifold of an almost complex manifold is not a pluripolar set. Several related results on boundary behavior of plurisubharmonic functions are established. Our approach is based on gluing a family of complex discs to a generic manifold along a boundary arc and could admit further applications.

In this article, we establish a new estimate for the Gaussian curvature of open Riemann surfaces in Euclidean three-space with a specified conformal metric regarding the uniqueness of the holomorphic maps of these surfaces. As its applications, we give new proofs on the unicity problems for the Gauss maps of various classes of surfaces, in particular, minimal surfaces in Euclidean three-space, constant mean curvature one surfaces in the hyperbolic three-space, maximal surfaces in the Lorentz–Minkowski three-space, improper affine spheres in the affine three-space and flat surfaces in the hyperbolic three-space.

In this paper we deal with complete linear Weingarten hypersurfaces immersed into Riemannian space forms. Assuming an Okumura type inequality on the total umbilicity tensor of such hypersurfaces, we prove that either the hypersurface is totally umbilical or it holds an estimate for the norm of the total umbilicity tensor, which is also shown be sharp in the sense that the product of space forms realize them. Our approach is based on a version of the Omori–Yau maximum principle for a suitable Cheng–Yau type operator.

In this paper, Berger spheres are regarded as geodesic spheres with sufficiently big radii in a complex projective space. We characterize such real hypersurfaces by investigating their geodesics and contact structures from the viewpoint of submanifold theory.

By use of a natural extension map and a power series method, we obtain a local stability theorem for $p$-Kähler structures with the $(p,p+1)$th mild $\unicode[STIX]{x2202}\overline{\unicode[STIX]{x2202}}$-lemma under small differentiable deformations.

Infinitely many new Einstein Finsler metrics are constructed on several homogeneous spaces. By imposing certain conditions on the homogeneous spaces, it is shown that the Ricci constant condition becomes an ordinary differential equation. The regular solutions of this equation lead to a two parameter family of Einstein Finsler metrics with vanishing $S$ curvature.

We shall explain here an idea to generalize classical complex analytic Kleinian group theory to any odd-dimensional cases. For a certain class of discrete subgroups of $\text{PGL}_{2n+1}(\mathbf{C})$ acting on $\mathbf{P}^{2n+1}$, we can define their domains of discontinuity in a canonical manner, regarding an $n$-dimensional projective linear subspace in $\mathbf{P}^{2n+1}$ as a point, like a point in the classical one-dimensional case. Many interesting (compact) non-Kähler manifolds appear systematically as the canonical quotients of the domains. In the last section, we shall give some examples.

This paper deals with the analysis of the singularities arising from the solutions of the problem ${-}\,{\rm Curl\ } F=\mu $, where F is a 3 × 3 matrix-valued Lp-function ($1\les p<2$) and μ a 3 × 3 matrix-valued Radon measure concentrated in a closed loop in Ω ⊂ ℝ3, or in a network of such loops (as, for instance, dislocation clusters as observed in single crystals). In particular, we study the topological nature of such dislocation singularities. It is shown that $F=\nabla u$, the absolutely continuous part of the distributional gradient Du of a vector-valued function u of special bounded variation. Furthermore, u can also be seen as a multi-valued field, that is, can be redefined with values in the three-dimensional flat torus 𝕋3 and hence is Sobolev-regular away from the singular loops. We then analyse the graphs of such maps represented as currents in Ω × 𝕋3 and show that their boundaries can be written in term of the measure μ. Readapting some well-known results for Cartesian currents, we recover closure and compactness properties of the class of maps with bounded curl concentrated on dislocation networks. In the spirit of previous work, we finally give some examples of variational problems where such results provide existence of solutions.

We generalise Simpson’s nonabelian Hodge correspondence to the context of projective varieties with Kawamata log terminal (klt) singularities. The proof relies on a descent theorem for numerically flat vector bundles along birational morphisms. In its simplest form, this theorem asserts that given any klt variety $X$ and any resolution of singularities, any vector bundle on the resolution that appears to come from $X$ numerically, does indeed come from $X$. Furthermore, and of independent interest, a new restriction theorem for semistable Higgs sheaves defined on the smooth locus of a normal, projective variety is established.

In this paper, we study the existence of positive solutions to a semilinear nonlocal elliptic problem with the fractional α-Laplacian on Rn, 0 < α < n. We show that the problem has infinitely many positive solutions in $ {C^\tau}({R^n})\bigcap H_{loc}^{\alpha /2}({R^n}) $. Moreover, each of these solutions tends to some positive constant limit at infinity. We can extend our previous result about sub-elliptic problem to the nonlocal problem on Rn. We also show for α ∊ (0, 2) that in some cases, by the use of Hardy’s inequality, there is a nontrivial non-negative $ H_{loc}^{\alpha /2}({R^n}) $ weak solution to the problem

We prove that every entire solution of the minimal graph equation that is bounded from below and has at most linear growth must be constant on a complete Riemannian manifold M with only one end if M has asymptotically non-negative sectional curvature. On the other hand, we prove the existence of bounded non-constant minimal graphic and p-harmonic functions on rotationally symmetric Cartan-Hadamard manifolds under optimal assumptions on the sectional curvatures.
