Summary

A 39-year-old man presented at our hospital with a painless palpable mass of the left submandibular region, which had been present for 6 months with progressive slow increase in dimensions. A fine-needle aspiration cytologic exam performed at another institution had been interpreted as consistent with pleomorphic adenoma. CT scan revealed a 4.5 × 3-cm lesion with calcification originating from the hyoid bone and extending in the soft tissues of the neck. The tumor recurred 13 months after surgical removal.
