A precise quantitative version of the following qualitative statement is proved: If a finite-dimensional normed space contains approximately Euclidean subspaces of all proportional dimensions, then every proportional dimensional quotient space has the same property.

In 1895, Cantor showed that between every two countable dense real sets, there is an order isomorphism. In fact, there is always such an order isomorphism that is the restriction of a universal entire function.

We bring examples of toric varieties blown up at a point in the torus that do not have finitely generated Cox rings. These examples are generalizations of our earlier work, where toric surfaces of Picard number 1 were studied. In this article we consider toric varieties of higher Picard number and higher dimension. In particular, we bring examples of weighted projective 3-spaces blown up at a point that do not have finitely generated Cox rings.

In this paper, we study a class of homogeneous Finsler metrics of vanishing $S$-curvature on a $(4n+3)$-dimensional sphere. We find a second order ordinary differential equation that characterizes Einstein metrics with constant Ricci curvature $1$ in this class. Using this equation we show that there are infinitely many homogeneous Einstein metrics on $S^{4n+3}$ of constant Ricci curvature $1$ and vanishing $S$-curvature. They contain the canonical metric on $S^{4n+3}$ of constant sectional curvature $1$ and the Einstein metric of non-constant sectional curvature given by Jensen in 1973.

The Orthogonal Least Squares (OLS) algorithm is an efficient sparse recovery algorithm that has received much attention in recent years. On one hand, this paper considers that the OLS algorithm recovers the supports of sparse signals in the noisy case. We show that the OLS algorithm exactly recovers the support of $K$-sparse signal $\boldsymbol{x}$ from $\boldsymbol{y}=\boldsymbol{\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F7}}\boldsymbol{x}+\boldsymbol{e}$ in $K$ iterations, provided that the sensing matrix $\boldsymbol{\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F7}}$ satisfies the restricted isometry property (RIP) with restricted isometry constant (RIC) $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FF}_{K+1}<1/\sqrt{K+1}$, and the minimum magnitude of the nonzero elements of $\boldsymbol{x}$ satisfies some constraint. On the other hand, this paper demonstrates that the OLS algorithm exactly recovers the support of the best $K$-term approximation of an almost sparse signal $\boldsymbol{x}$ in the general perturbations case, which means both $\boldsymbol{y}$ and $\boldsymbol{\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F7}}$ are perturbed. We show that the support of the best $K$-term approximation of $\boldsymbol{x}$ can be recovered under reasonable conditions based on the restricted isometry property (RIP).

Very recently, Karder and Petek completely described maps on density matrices (positive semidefinite matrices with unit trace) preserving certain entropy-like convex functionals of any convex combination. As a result, maps could be characterized that preserve von Neumann entropy or Schatten $p$-norm of any convex combination of quantum states (whose mathematical representatives are the density matrices). In this note we consider these latter two problems on the set of invertible density operators, in a much more general setting, on the set of positive invertible elements with unit trace in a $C^{\ast }$-algebra.

Infinitely many new Einstein Finsler metrics are constructed on several homogeneous spaces. By imposing certain conditions on the homogeneous spaces, it is shown that the Ricci constant condition becomes an ordinary differential equation. The regular solutions of this equation lead to a two parameter family of Einstein Finsler metrics with vanishing $S$ curvature.

In this short note, we prove that on the three-sphere with any bumpy metric there exist at least two pairs of solutions of the Allen–Cahn equation with spherical interface and index at most two. The proof combines several recent results from the literature.

In his seminal work on Sidon sets, Pisier found an important characterization of Sidonicity: A set is Sidon if and only if it is proportionally quasi-independent. Later, it was shown that Sidon sets were proportionally “special” Sidon in several other ways. Here, we prove that Sidon sets in torsion-free groups are proportionally $n$-degree independent, a higher order of independence than quasi-independence, and we use this to prove that Sidon sets are proportionally Sidon with Sidon constants arbitrarily close to one, the minimum possible value.

In this paper we show that to a unital associative algebra object (resp. co-unital co-associative co-algebra object) of any abelian monoidal category ($\mathscr{C},\otimes$) endowed with a symmetric 2-trace, i.e., an $F\in \text{Fun}(\mathscr{C},\text{Vec})$ satisfying some natural trace-like conditions, one can attach a cyclic (resp. cocyclic) module, and therefore speak of the (co)cyclic homology of the (co)algebra “with coefficients in $F$”. Furthermore, we observe that if $\mathscr{M}$ is a $\mathscr{C}$-bimodule category and $(F,M)$ is a stable central pair, i.e., $F\in \text{Fun}(\mathscr{M},\text{Vec})$ and $M\in \mathscr{M}$ satisfy certain conditions, then $\mathscr{C}$ acquires a symmetric 2-trace. The dual notions of symmetric 2-contratraces and stable central contrapairs are derived as well. As an application we can recover all Hopf cyclic type (co)homology theories.

A theorem of Gekeler compares the number of non-isomorphic automorphic representations associated with the space of cusp forms of weight $k$ on $\unicode[STIX]{x0393}_{0}(N)$ to a simpler function of $k$ and $N$, showing that the two are equal whenever $N$ is squarefree. We prove the converse of this theorem (with one small exception), thus providing a characterization of squarefree integers. We also establish a similar characterization of prime numbers in terms of the number of Hecke newforms of weight $k$ on $\unicode[STIX]{x0393}_{0}(N)$.

It follows that a hypothetical fast algorithm for computing the number of such automorphic representations for even a single weight $k$ would yield a fast test for whether $N$ is squarefree. We also show how to obtain bounds on the possible square divisors of a number $N$ that has been found not to be squarefree via this test, and we show how to probabilistically obtain the complete factorization of the squarefull part of $N$ from the number of such automorphic representations for two different weights. If in addition we have the number of such Hecke newforms for even a single weight $k$, then we show how to probabilistically factor $N$ entirely. All of these computations could be performed quickly in practice, given the number(s) of automorphic representations and modular forms as input.

We describe all degenerations of three-dimensional anticommutative algebras $\mathfrak{A}\mathfrak{c}\mathfrak{o}\mathfrak{m}_{3}$ and of three-dimensional Leibniz algebras $\mathfrak{L}\mathfrak{e}\mathfrak{i}\mathfrak{b}_{3}$ over $\mathbb{C}$. In particular, we describe all irreducible components and rigid algebras in the corresponding varieties.

This paper is about rings $R$ for which every element is a sum of a tripotent and an element from the Jacobson radical $J(R)$. These rings are called semi-tripotent rings. Examples include Boolean rings, strongly nil-clean rings, strongly 2-nil-clean rings, and semi-boolean rings. Here, many characterizations of semi-tripotent rings are obtained. Necessary and sufficient conditions for a Morita context (respectively, for a group ring of an abelian group or a locally finite nilpotent group) to be semi-tripotent are proved.

We give a geometric and elementary proof of the uniform $\mathscr{C}^{p}$-parametrization theorem of Yomdin and Gromov in arbitrary o-minimal structures.

Given systems of two (inhomogeneous) quadratic equations in four variables, it is known that the Hasse principle for integral points may fail. Sometimes this failure can be explained by some integral Brauer–Manin obstruction. We study the existence of a non-trivial algebraic part of the Brauer group for a family of such systems and show that the failure of the integral Hasse principle due to an algebraic Brauer–Manin obstruction is rare, as for a generic choice of a system the algebraic part of the Brauer-group is trivial. We use resolvent constructions to give quantitative upper bounds on the number of exceptions.

Darmon, Lauder, and Rotger conjectured that the relative tangent space of an eigencurve at a classical, ordinary, irregular weight one point is of dimension two. This space can be identified with the space of normalized overconvergent generalized eigenforms, whose Fourier coefficients can be conjecturally described explicitly in terms of $p$-adic logarithms of algebraic numbers. This article presents the proof of this conjecture in the case where the weight one point is the intersection of two Hida families of Hecke theta series.

In this paper, we completely characterize the finite rank commutator and semi-commutator of two monomial-type Toeplitz operators on the Bergman space of certain weakly pseudoconvex domains. Somewhat surprisingly, there are not only plenty of commuting monomial-type Toeplitz operators but also non-trivial semi-commuting monomial-type Toeplitz operators. Our results are new even for the unit ball.

We produce an isomorphism $E_{\infty }^{m,-m-1}\cong \text{Nrd}_{1}(A^{\otimes m})$ between terms of the $\text{K}$-theory coniveau spectral sequence of a Severi–Brauer variety $X$ associated with a central simple algebra $A$ and a reduced norm group, assuming $A$ has equal index and exponent over all finite extensions of its center and that $\text{SK}_{1}(A^{\otimes i})=1$ for all $i>0$.

We classify up to automorphisms all left-invariant non-Einstein solutions to the Einstein–Maxwell equations on four-dimensional Lie algebras.
