‘And God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may release unto you your other brother and Benjamin. And as for me, I have long ago been told by the holy spirit that if I be bereaved of Joseph I shall be bereaved of Simeon and Benjamin.’

And the men took that present, and they took double money in their hand, and they took Benjamin; and rose up, and went down to Egypt, and stood before Joseph.

And when Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to Manasseh, whom he had appointed overseer of his house, ‘Bring the men into the house, and open the slaughter house, and remove the sinew which shrank, and prepare meat before them, for the men shall dine with me at the time of the noon-day meal’.

(These verses follow the Hebrew, except that verse 23 adds, Peace be to you from my Lord …; verse 25 adds, For they heard from him …)

And they set on for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the Egyptians, which did eat with him, by themselves: because it was not right for the Egyptians to eat bread with the Jews, because the animals which the Egyptians worship the Jews eat.
