And Joseph laid his father on a bed of ivory covered with fine gold, set with fine stones, and tied with linen cords. There they sprinkled mulled wines and there burned precious spices. There stood the mighty men from the house of Esau and the mighty men from the house of Israel. There stood the lion of Judah, the mighty one of his brethren. He answered and said to his brothers, ‘Come and let us establish over our father a high cedar whose top will reach to the summit of heaven, with its branches overshadowing all the inhabitants of the earth, and its roots descending into the depths of the earth. From him have arisen twelve tribes; from him are going to arise kings and rulers and priests in their divisions to offer offerings; from him also the Levites in their appointments for singing.’ Then, behold, Joseph fell upon his father's face, and wept upon him, and kissed him.

And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father: and the physicians embalmed Israel.

And forty days from the embalming were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of embalming: and the Egyptians wept for him threescore and ten days, saying, ‘Come, let us weep for Jacob the faithful, for because of his merit famine was turned away from the land of Egypt’.
