RABY, NSW (ray-bee), an outer south-western Sydney suburb in the City of campbelltown (map 26:B5). Alexander Riley established a sheep property there in the 1820s and named it after Raby Castle in Durham in the north of England.

RACEVIEW, Qld, an outer south-western Brisbane suburb in the City of ipswich (map 23:A4).

RAFFLES BAY, NT (raff-ĕls), 11 16S 132 24E (map 3), a long inlet near the eastern end of the cobourg peninsula. Phillip Parker King named it in 1817 in honour of Sir Stanford Raffles, later the founder of Singapore. The region, now Aboriginal land once again, was the site of an attempt during 1827–9 to found a penal and military settlement.

RAILTON, Tas. (rail-tŏn), 41 21S 146 25E (map 7), an industrial town (pop. 906) in kentish Municipality to the south of devonport. The name is thought to come about because the lines of the Mersey and Deloraine Tramway Company connected with the area. The town produces cement as its main product, while the surrounding district yields timber and dairy products.

RAINBOW, Vic, 35 54S 141 00E (map 17), a town (pop. 655) in dimboola Shire in the south of the mallee District. Rainbow serves a district producing wheat and wool.

RAINBOW BEACH, Qld, 25 54S 153 05E, a town (pop. 544) in widgee Shire to the north-east of gympie (map 5). It was named after a British naval vessel, HMS Rainbow.
