Let M=(M)n∈ℕ be a discrete-time normal martingale satisfying some mild requirements. In this paper we show that through the full Wiener integral introduced by Wang et al. (‘An alternative approach to Privault’s discrete-time chaotic calculus’, J. Math. Anal. Appl.373 (2011), 643–654), one can define a multiplication-type operation on square integrable functionals of M, which we call the convolution. We examine algebraic and analytical properties of the convolution and, in particular, we prove that the convolution can be used to represent a certain family of conditional expectation operators associated with M. We also present an example of a discrete-time normal martingale to show that the corresponding convolution has an integral representation.

It is well known that Hurwitz zeta-functions with algebraically independent parameters over the field of rational numbers are universal in the sense that their shifts approximate simultaneously any collection of analytic functions. In this paper we introduce some classes of universal composite functions of a collection of Hurwitz zeta-functions.

A finite measure supported by the unit sphere 𝕊n−1 in ℝn and absolutely continuous with respect to the natural measure on 𝕊n−1 is entirely determined by the restriction of its Fourier transform to a sphere of radius r if and only 2πr is not a zero of any Bessel function Jd+(n−2)/2 with d a nonnegative integer.

In this work, we study and investigate the ultrapowers of ℓ1-Munn algebras. Then we show that the class of ℓ1-Munn algebras is stable under ultrapowers. Finally, applying this result to semigroup algebras, we show that for a semigroup S, ultra-amenability of ℓ1(S) and amenability of the second dual ℓ1(S)′′ are equivalent.

The existence of solutions to a homogeneous Dirichlet problem for a p-Laplacian differential inclusion is studied via a fixed-point type theorem concerning operator inclusions in Banach spaces. Some meaningful special cases are then worked out.

In this paper, we consider the Neumann boundary value problem with a parameter λ∈(0,∞): By using fixed point theorems in a cone, we obtain some existence, multiplicity and nonexistence results for positive solutions in terms of different values of λ. We also prove an existence and uniqueness theorem and show the continuous dependence of solutions on the parameter λ.

Let R be a commutative ring. It is shown that if an R-module M is a sum of δ-local submodules and a semisimple projective submodule, then every finitely generated submodule of M is δ-supplemented. From this result, we conclude that finitely generated δ-supplemented modules over commutative rings are amply δ-supplemented.

This paper deals with the large-time behaviour of solutions to the fast diffusive Newtonian filtration equations coupled via the nonlinear boundary sources. A result of Fujita type is obtained by constructing various kinds of upper and lower solutions. In particular, it is shown that the critical global existence curve and the critical Fujita curve concide for the multi-dimensional system. This is quite different from the known results obtained in Wang, Zhou and Lou [‘Critical exponents for porous medium systems coupled via nonlinear boundary flux’, Nonlinear Anal.7(1) (2009), 2134–2140] for the corresponding one-dimensional problem.

Assume that G is a solvable group whose elementary abelian sections are all finite. Suppose, further, that p is a prime such that G fails to contain any subgroups isomorphic to Cp∞. We show that if G is nilpotent, then the pro-p completion map induces an isomorphism for any discrete -module M of finite p-power order. For the general case, we prove that G contains a normal subgroup N of finite index such that the map is an isomorphism for any discrete -module M of finite p-power order. Moreover, if G lacks any Cp∞-sections, the subgroup N enjoys some additional special properties with respect to its pro-p topology.

In this paper we consider some notions of amenability such as ideal amenability, n-ideal amenability and approximate n-ideal amenability. The first two were introduced and studied by Gordji, Yazdanpanah and Memarbashi. We investigate some properties of certain Banach algebras in each of these classes. Results are also given for Segal algebras on locally compact groups.

Let X be any set and P(X) the set of all partial transformations defined on X, that is, all functions α:A→B where A,B are subsets of X. Then P(X) is a semigroup under composition. Let Y be a subset of X. Recently, Fernandes and Sanwong defined PT(X,Y )={α∈P(X):Xα⊆Y } and defined I(X,Y ) to be the set of all injective transformations in PT(X,Y ) . Hence PT(X,Y ) and I(X,Y ) are subsemigroups of P(X) . In this paper, we study properties of the so-called natural partial order ≤ on PT(X,Y ) and I(X,Y ) in terms of domains, images and kernels, compare ≤ with the subset order, characterise the meet and join of these two orders, then find elements of PT(X,Y ) and I(X,Y ) which are compatible. Also, the minimal and maximal elements are described.

A type of generalized higher derivation consisting of a collection of self-mappings of a ring associated with a monoid, and here called a D-structure, is studied. Such structures were previously used to define various kinds of ‘skew’ or ‘twisted’ monoid rings. We show how certain gradings by monoids define D-structures. The monoid ring defined by such a structure corresponding to a group-grading is the variant of the group ring introduced by Năstăsescu, while in the case of a cyclic group of order two, the form of the D-structure itself yields some gradability criteria of Bakhturin and Parmenter. A partial description is obtained of the D-structures associated with infinite cyclic monoids.

Mixed norm inequalities for directional operators are closely related to the boundedness problems of several important operators in harmonic analysis. In this paper we prove weighted inequalities for some one-dimensional one-sided maximal functions. Then by applying these results, we establish mixed norm inequalities for directional maximal operators which are defined from these one-dimensional maximal functions. We also estimate the constants in these inequalities.

Let G be a locally compact group and H be a compact subgroup of G. Using a general criterion established by Neufang [‘A unified approach to the topological centre problem for certain Banach algebras arising in abstract harmonic analysis’, Arch. Math.82(2) (2004), 164–171], we show that the Banach algebra L1(G/H) is strongly Arens irregular for a large class of locally compact groups.

Let K be a complete discrete valuation field of characteristic zero with residue field kK of characteristic p>0. Let L/K be a finite Galois extension with Galois group G=Gal(L/K) and suppose that the induced extension of residue fields kL/kK is separable. Let 𝕎n(⋅) denote the ring of p-typical Witt vectors of length n. Hesselholt [‘Galois cohomology of Witt vectors of algebraic integers’, Math. Proc. Cambridge Philos. Soc.137(3) (2004), 551–557] conjectured that the pro-abelian group {H1 (G,𝕎n (𝒪L))}n≥1 is isomorphic to zero. Hogadi and Pisolkar [‘On the cohomology of Witt vectors of p-adic integers and a conjecture of Hesselholt’, J. Number Theory131(10) (2011), 1797–1807] have recently provided a proof of this conjecture. In this paper, we provide a simplified version of the original proof which avoids many of the calculations present in that version.

A condition equivalent to sparseness of a set on the plane is formulated and used as a motivation for a new concept of density point on the plane. This is investigated and compared with known previous versions.

In this paper we extend some estimates of the right-hand side of a Hermite–Hadamard type inequality for functions whose derivatives’ absolute values are P-convex. Applications to the trapezoidal formula and special means are introduced.

In this paper, we consider certain double series analogous to Tornheim’s double series and real analytic Eisenstein series. By computing double integrals in two ways, we express the double series as a sum of products of polylogarithms. The technique generalises one given by Kanemitsu, Tanigawa and Yoshimoto. Evaluating the double series at particular points gives new evaluations for certain double series in terms of values of the Riemann zeta function and the dilogarithm which are analogues of formulas of Mordell and Goncharov.

c-Sections of maximal subgroups in a finite group and their relation to solvability have been extensively researched in recent years. A fundamental result due to Wang [‘C-normality of groups and its properties’, J. Algebra 180 (1998), 954–965] is that a finite group is solvable if and only if the c-sections of all its maximal subgroups are trivial. In this paper we prove that if for each maximal subgroup of a finite group G, the corresponding c-section order is smaller than the index of the maximal subgroup, then each composition factor of G is either cyclic or isomorphic to the O’Nan sporadic group (the converse does not hold). Furthermore, by a certain ‘refining’ of the latter theorem we obtain an equivalent condition for solvability. Finally, we provide an existence result for large subgroups in the sense of Lev [‘On large subgroups of finite groups’ J. Algebra 152 (1992), 434–438].

We construct an example showing that Kurosh’s construction of the lower strong radical in the class of associative rings may not terminate at any finite ordinal.
