Summary

Psychiatric disorders, including depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), addictions, and even schizophrenia, are the newest frontier for deep brain stimulation (DBS). The evidence base for specific anatomic targets and disease indications remains fluid, as few centers have the technical expertise and cross-disciplinary integration required to explore the boundaries of clinical knowledge. As such, most psychiatric DBS remains experimental.
