In the state of Karnataka, India, the first case of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) was diagnosed on March 9, 2020. As stated by the WHO, around 15% of COVID-19 patients require treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Keeping this in mind, along with the increase in COVID-19 patients in Karnataka, it was predicted that the prevailing general wards and ICUs would be overburdened with the added non-COVID-19 diseases and infirmities. Hence, it was decided to set up a separate infrastructure to reduce the chances of transmission among the patients within the hospital. Thus, the board at SDM College of Medical Sciences & Hospital, Dharwad, Karnataka, took the responsibility to establish a fully equipped 100-bedded hospital in its premise as part of the national and state services to combat the outbreak. The aim of the study was to establish an isolated, fully functional hospital, equipped with all necessary diagnostic and critical care facilities to treat patients diagnosed with COVID-19 in North Karnataka, India.

The present study addressed the weldability of Hastelloy C-276 and Type 321 austenitic stainless steel (ASS) dissimilar combination used for manufacturing of high-temperature equipments in nuclear power plants. Investigation of the microstructural evolutions across the different welding passes and their subsequent effect on the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance would be helpful in better understanding and pave way for the frequent application of such dissimilar joints in the industrial applications. The problem of segregation associated with the multi-pass gas tungsten arc welding process was also investigated systematically. The fusion zone microstructures exhibited a transition from columnar to an equiaxed dendritic structure with varying passes. The topologically closed packed (TCP) phases (such as P and μ) were observed in the fusion zone as well as at the weld interface of Hastelloy C-276. Polarization test was performed to evaluate the corrosion resistance and results indicated that the Cr and Mo depleted zones formed around the TCP phases might be responsible for decreased Epit value for fusion zone. The novelty of this work is to explore the possibilities of substitution of an expensive Hastelloy C-276 with a cost-effective Ti-stabilized Type 321 ASS.

In this paper, a vase-shaped monopole antenna is presented for dual band notch (WiMAX IEEE802.16 3.30–3.80 GHz with C-band 3.80–4.20 GHz and WLAN IEEE802.11a/h/j/n 5.15–5.35 GHz, 5.25–5.35 GHz, 5.47–5.725 GHz, 5.725–5.825 GHz) UWB and other wireless services (close range radar: 8–12 GHz in X-band & satellite communication: 12–18 GHz in Ku-band). Measured VSWR of proposed antenna shows a high band-rejection for WiMAX along with C-band with VSWR = 25.33 at 3.77 GHz and WLAN with VSWR = 6.0 at 5.64 GHz is achieved by cutting two C-shaped slots on the radiating patch. Designed antenna covers a wide usable fractional bandwidth 160% (2.58–20.39 GHz). Furthermore, the measured gain of antenna is relatively stable across the impedance bandwidth except band-notched. In addition, antenna offers omni-directional pattern, reasonably small 20 × 20 × 0.787 mm3 and easy to construct structure.
