Special Issues

Parasitology welcomes non-solicited proposals for special issues of research/review papers on a specialist topic relevant to the journal’s scope, including those that originate from a conference, a workshop, or are not linked to any particular event.

Proposal

We ask anyone interested in proposing a special issue to first provide a short one or two page document for editorial review that includes:

The Guest Editor(s) who will coordinate the submission of the papers and be the main point of contact for Parasitology.

An outline of the proposed issue that contains:

  • How the issue fits within the scope of Parasitology
  • The common theme(s) that make this a coherent set of papers
  • What these papers do to advance existing knowledge internationally
  • A list of the titles, authors with short abstracts from expected submissions
  • An attempt to ensure a balanced equity of all whatever stage of their career

A timetable section should state when we can expect to receive the papers. Coordinated submission of the papers is preferred.

This proposal should be sent to John.T.Ellis@alumni.uts.edu.au (Deputy and Special Issues Editor for Parasitology)

Review process

The Guest Editor(s) will coordinate the submission of the papers, which should follow the standard Parasitology Author Instructions.

Submitted articles will go through the standard peer review process. The papers will not be treated as a block: they will be accepted or rejected on their own merits. Authors will be provided with feedback about their papers on an individual basis, but the Parasitology team will keep in contact with the Guest Editor(s) about the status of the issue as a whole. The final decision to accept or reject articles rests with the Parasitology editorial team, but the Guest Editors are consulted on decision making at all stages of the submission process. They nominate referees, review the referees reports and make recommendations.

If published, the special issue will receive its own dedicated page on the journal’s website. The issue will benefit from outreach activities from our specialist media promotion team. This will acknowledge the efforts of the Guest Editor(s) responsible for the issue and any sponsoring institutions involved. The Guest Editor(s) will also be asked to write an editorial to introduce the issue and contribute towards the issues online presence at all levels.
