In this paper, we show that Leavitt path algebras of weighted graphs and Leavitt path algebras of separated graphs are intimately related. We prove that any Leavitt path algebra $L(E,\omega )$ of a row-finite vertex weighted graph $(E,\omega )$ is $*$ -isomorphic to the lower Leavitt path algebra of a certain bipartite separated graph $(E(\omega ),C(\omega ))$ . For a general locally finite weighted graph $(E, \omega )$ , we show that a certain quotient $L_1(E,\omega )$ of $L(E,\omega )$ is $*$ -isomorphic to an upper Leavitt path algebra of another bipartite separated graph $(E(w)_1,C(w)^1)$ . We furthermore introduce the algebra ${L^{\mathrm {ab}}} (E,w)$ , which is a universal tame $*$ -algebra generated by a set of partial isometries. We draw some consequences of our results for the structure of ideals of $L(E,\omega )$ , and we study in detail two different maximal ideals of the Leavitt algebra $L(m,n)$ .

Let $\mathcal {I}$ be an ideal on $\omega $ . For $f,\,g\in \omega ^{\omega }$ we write $f \leq _{\mathcal {I}} g$ if $f(n) \leq g(n)$ for all $n\in \omega \setminus A$ with some $A\in \mathcal {I}$ . Moreover, we denote $\mathcal {D}_{\mathcal {I}}=\{f\in \omega ^{\omega }: f^{-1}[\{n\}]\in \mathcal {I} \text { for every } n\in \omega \}$ (in particular, $\mathcal {D}_{\mathrm {Fin}}$ denotes the family of all finite-to-one functions).

We examine cardinal numbers $\mathfrak {b}(\geq _{\mathcal {I}}\cap (\mathcal {D}_{\mathcal {I}} \times \mathcal {D}_{\mathcal {I}}))$ and $\mathfrak {b}(\geq _{\mathcal {I}}\cap (\mathcal {D}_{\mathrm {Fin}}\times \mathcal {D}_{\mathrm {Fin}}))$ describing the smallest sizes of unbounded from below with respect to the order $\leq _{\mathcal {I}}$ sets in $\mathcal {D}_{\mathrm {Fin}}$ and $\mathcal {D}_{\mathcal {I}}$ , respectively. For a maximal ideal $\mathcal {I}$ , these cardinals were investigated by M. Canjar in connection with coinitial and cofinal subsets of the ultrapowers.

We show that $\mathfrak {b}(\geq _{\mathcal {I}}\cap (\mathcal {D}_{\mathrm {Fin}} \times \mathcal {D}_{\mathrm {Fin}})) =\mathfrak {b}$ for all ideals $\mathcal {I}$ with the Baire property and that $\aleph _1 \leq \mathfrak {b}(\geq _{\mathcal {I}}\cap (\mathcal {D}_{\mathcal {I}} \times \mathcal {D}_{\mathcal {I}})) \leq \mathfrak {b}$ for all coanalytic weak P-ideals (this class contains all $\bf {\Pi ^0_4}$ ideals). What is more, we give examples of Borel (even $\bf {\Sigma ^0_2}$ ) ideals $\mathcal {I}$ with $\mathfrak {b}(\geq _{\mathcal {I}}\cap (\mathcal {D}_{\mathcal {I}} \times \mathcal {D}_{\mathcal {I}}))=\mathfrak {b}$ as well as with $\mathfrak {b}(\geq _{\mathcal {I}}\cap (\mathcal {D}_{\mathcal {I}} \times \mathcal {D}_{\mathcal {I}})) =\aleph _1$ .

We also study cardinals $\mathfrak {b}(\geq _{\mathcal {I}}\cap (\mathcal {D}_{\mathcal {J}} \times \mathcal {D}_{\mathcal {K}}))$ describing the smallest sizes of sets in $\mathcal {D}_{\mathcal {K}}$ not bounded from below with respect to the preorder $\leq _{\mathcal {I}}$ by any member of $\mathcal {D}_{\mathcal {J}}\!$ . Our research is partially motivated by the study of ideal-QN-spaces: those cardinals describe the smallest size of a space which is not ideal-QN.

An EMV-algebra resembles an MV-algebra in which a top element is not guaranteed. For $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70E}$-complete $EMV$-algebras, we prove an analogue of the Loomis–Sikorski theorem showing that every $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70E}$-complete $EMV$-algebra is a $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70E}$-homomorphic image of an $EMV$-tribe of fuzzy sets where all algebraic operations are defined by points. To prove it, some topological properties of the state-morphism space and the space of maximal ideals are established.

We generate an algebra on blood phenotypes with multiplication based on the human ABO-blood group inheritance pattern. We assume that gametes are not chosen randomly during meiosis. We investigate some of the properties of this algebra, namely, the set of idempotents, lattice of ideals and the associative enveloping algebra.

We give topological characterizations of filters ${\cal F}$ on ω such that the Mathias forcing ${M_{\cal F}}$ adds no dominating reals or preserves ground model unbounded families. This allows us to answer some questions of Brendle, Guzmán, Hrušák, Martínez, Minami, and Tsaban.

We investigate ideals of the form {A ⊆ ω: Σn∈Axn is unconditionally convergent} where (xn)n∈ω is a sequence in a Polish group or in a Banach space. If an ideal on ω can be seen in this form for some sequence in X, then we say that it is representable in X.

After numerous examples we show the following theorems: (1) An ideal is representable in a Polish Abelian group iff it is an analytic P-ideal. (2) An ideal is representable in a Banach space iff it is a nonpathological analytic P-ideal.

We focus on the family of ideals representable in c0. We characterize this property via the defining sequence of measures. We prove that the trace of the null ideal, Farah’s ideal, and Tsirelson ideals are not representable in c0, and that a tall Fσ P-ideal is representable in c0 iff it is a summable ideal. Also, we provide an example of a peculiar ideal which is representable in ℓ1 but not in ℝ.

Finally, we summarize some open problems of this topic.

The aim of this paper is to give a classification theorem for commutative torsion filial rings.

Kant emphasizes that moral philosophy must be divided into two parts, a ‘purely rational’ metaphysics of morals, and an empirical application to individuals, which Kant calls ‘moral anthropology’. But Kant gives humanity (die Menschheit) a prominent role even in the purely rational part of ethics – for example, one formulation of the categorical imperative is a demand to treat humanity as an end in itself. This paper argues that the only concepts of humanity suited to play such a role are the rational idea of humanity, and the rational ideal derived from this idea, which Kant discusses in Critique of Practical Reason and other texts.

Following ideas used by Drewnowski and Wilansky we prove that if $I$ is an infinite dimensional and infinite codimensional closed ideal in a complete metrizable locally solid Riesz space and $I$ does not contain any order copy of ${{\mathbb{R}}^{\mathbb{N}}}$ then there exists a closed, separable, discrete Riesz subspace $G$ such that the topology induced on $G$ is Lebesgue, $I\,\bigcap \,G\,=\,\left\{ 0 \right\}$, and $I\,+\,G$ is not closed.

Let A be a unital C*-algebra with the canonical (H) C*-bundle over the maximal ideal space of the centre of A, and let E(A) be the set of all elementary operators on A. We consider derivations on A which lie in the completely bounded norm closure of E(A), and show that such derivations are necessarily inner in the case when each fibre of is a prime C*-algebra. We also consider separable C*-algebras A for which is an (F) bundle. For these C*-algebras we show that the following conditions are equivalent: E(A) is closed in the operator norm; A as a Banach module over its centre is topologically finitely generated; fibres of have uniformly finite dimensions, and each restriction bundle of over a set where its fibres are of constant dimension is of finite type as a vector bundle.

For a locally compact group G and an arbitrary subset J of [1,∞], we introduce ILJ(G) as a subspace of ⋂ p∈JLp(G) with some norm to make it a Banach space. Then, for some special choice of J, we investigate some topological and algebraic properties of ILJ(G) as a Banach algebra under a convolution product.

Real ideals of the ring ℜL of real-valued continuous functions on a completely regular frame L are characterized in terms of cozero elements, in the manner of the classical case of the rings C(X). As an application, we show that L is realcompact if and only if every free maximal ideal of ℜL is hyper-real—which is the precise translation of how Hewitt defined realcompact spaces, albeit under a different appellation. We also obtain a frame version of Mrówka’s theorem that characterizes realcompact spaces.

The main purpose of this paper is to give a new, elementary proof of Flanigan’s theorem, which says that a given ring A has a maximal essential extension ME(A) if and only if the two-sided annihilator of A is zero. Moreover, we discuss the problem of description of ME(A) for a given right ideal A of a ring with an identity.

A ring in which every accessible subring is an ideal is called filial. We continue the study of commutative reduced filial rings started in [R. R. Andruszkiewicz and K. Pryszczepko, ‘A classification of commutative reduced filial rings’, Comm. Algebra to appear]. In particular we describe the Noetherian commutative reduced rings and construct nontrivial examples of commutative reduced filial rings without ideals which are domains.
