Summary

Nearly a century and a half after their arrival in Chile, Croatian immigrants, mostly from the Dalmatian region, settled primarily in two outlying areas of the country. Attracted by nitrate mining, some migrated to the northern desert area. They worked both as employees and administrators, mainly in the port cities of Antofagasta and Iquique. Some even became successful owners of small businesses or nitrate companies.
