Summary
This chapter deals with the nationwide, regional and local institutions of governance within the religious organisations. It examines institutional organisation at these three levels and identifies the governing bodies at each level, their composition, how their membership is appointed or elected and the functions of these institutions in terms of law-making and administration. The chapter explores the themes of accountability and democracy in religious governance and compatibility with standards of civil law.
