Neonatal acute myocardial infarction is a rare event that carries a high mortality rate. We describe the cases of two newborns who survived acute myocardial infarction and discuss the management. The first neonate was born with severe asphyxia and left ventricular myocardial infarction with ventricular tachycardia. In this patient, systemic flow was maintained by right-to-left shunting through the patent ductus arteriosus. The second neonate presented with a haematocrit of 80% and an inferolateral myocardial infarction. Intensive treatment of low cardiac output syndrome led to survival of both high-risk neonates. In the follow-up, at 48 and 4 months, respectively, ventricular function recovered in both patients.

A 7-year-old male patient who had abdominal swelling and eyelid oedema was diagnosed with restrictive cardiomyopathy. His serum albumin level was 2.3 g/dl. Protein-losing enteropathy due to restrictive cardiomyopathy was diagnosed and oral budesonide was started. His serum albumin level began to rise and ascites and peripheric oedema disappeared. The patient underwent a successful cardiac transplantation and budesonide was stopped. After the heart transplantation, the albumin level decreased to 2.3 g/dl, and therefore it was restarted. When the serum albumin level increased, the budesonide dose was tapered and stopped in 1 month. Budesonide may be an effective drug in patients with protein-losing enteropathy due to heart failure.

The authors describe a case of Kawasaki disease who presented fever, coronary artery aneurysm, and ischaemic intestinal obstruction requiring stage resections. A review of literature of such association is performed. Atypical Kawasaki disease is more complex to diagnose and in combination of persistent fever with no definite cause and surgical abdominal pain, Kawasaki disease should be considered in the differential diagnosis.
