Given a quasi-symmetric self-homeomorphism h of the unit circle Sl, let Q(h) be the set of all quasiconformal mappings with the boundary correspondence h. In this paper, it is shown that there exists certain quasi-symmetric homeomorphism h, such that Q(h) satisfies either of the conditions,

(1) Q(h) admits a quasiconformal mapping that is both uniquely locally-extremal and uniquely extremal-non-decreasable instead of being uniquely extremal;

(2) Q(h) contains infinitely many quasiconformal mappings each of which has an extremal non-decreasable dilatation.

An infinitesimal version of this result is also obtained.

In this paper we give a characterisation of -invariant real hypersurfaces of type A; that is, a tube over a totally geodesic G2(ℂm+1) in complex two-plane Grassmannians G2(ℂm+2) or a ruled real hypersurface foliated by complex hypersurfaces which includes a maximal totally geodesic submanifold G2(ℂm+1) in G2(ℂm+2) in terms of η-parallel shape operator.

In this paper we obtain new results on the uniform convergence on matrices and a new version of the matrix theorem of the Hahn-Schur summation theorem in effect algebras.

We show that the inverse limit of any inverse sequence of compact metric spaces and surjective bonding maps is in fact the limit of a sequence of homeomorphic copies of the same spaces with respect to the Hausdorff metric.

We investigate the existence of solutions and their stability for elliptic Dirichlet problems with nonlinearity of a convex-concave type. By relating the primal action and the dual action functionals on certain subsets of their domains we get the existence of solutions which are further stable with respect to a numerical parameter. We allow also for the differential operator to depend on a numerical parameter.

We study the closed range property of weighted composition operators on weighted Bergman spaces of infinite order (including the Hardy space of infinite order). We give some necessary and sufficient conditions and find a complete characterisation for weighted composition operators associated with conformal mappings. We also give the corresponding results for composition operators on the Bloch-type spaces. Therefore, the results obtained in this paper also improve and generalise the results of Ghatage, Yan, Zheng and Zorboska.

This paper is concerned with transformations for complex discrete linear Hamiltonian systems and complex discrete linear symplectic systems. A general complex discrete trigonometric system is studied and a criterion for it is established. Based on these results, the Prüfer and trigonometric transformations for complex discrete linear Hamiltonian systems and complex discrete linear symplectic systems are formulated. The relative existing results in real cases are extended.

In a recent paper (which is to appear in J. Algebra Appl.) we proved that every element of a right self-injective ring R is a sum of two units if and only if R has no factor ring isomorphic to ℤ2 and hence the unit sum number of a nonzero right self-injective ring is 2, ω or ∞. In this paper we characterise right self-injective rings with unit sum numbers ω and ∞. We prove that the unit sum number of a right self-injective ring R is ω if and only if R has a factor ring isomorphic to ℤ2 but no factor ring isomorphic to ℤ2 × ℤ2, and also in this case every element of R is a sum of either two or three units. It follows that the unit sum number of a right self-injective ring R is ∞ precisely when R has a factor ring isomorphic to ℤ2 × ℤ2. We also answer a question of Henriksen (which appeared in J. Algebra, Question E, page 192), by giving a large class of regular right self-injective rings having the unit sum number ω in which not all non-invertible elements are the sum of two units.

Let R be a finite ring. Let us denote its group of units by G = G(R) and its Jacobson radical by J = J(R). Let n be an arbitrary integer. We prove that R is an n-insertive ring if and only if G is an n-insertive group and show that every n-insertive finite ring is a direct sum of local rings. We prove that if n is a unit, then the local ring R is n-insertive if and only if its Jacobson group 1 + J is n-insertive and find an example to show that this is not true if n is a non-unit.

The author shows that if the dual of a Musielak–Orlicz sequence space lΦ is a stabilized asymptotic l∞, space with respect to the unit vector basis, then lΦ is saturated with complemented copies of l1 and has the Schur property. A sufficient condition is found for the isomorphic embedding of lp spaces into Musielak–Orlicz sequence spaces.

In this note we analyse the analogy between m-potent and p-central restricted Lie algebras and p-groups. For restricted Lie algebras the notion of m-potency has stronger implications than for p-groups (Theorem A). Every finite-dimensional restricted Lie algebra  is isomorphic to for some finite-dimensional p-central restricted Lie algebra (Proposition B). In particular, for restricted Lie algebras there does not hold an analogue of J.Buckley's theorem. For p odd one can characterise powerful restricted Lie algebras in terms of the cup product map in the same way as for finite p-groups (Theorem C). Moreover, the p-centrality of the finite-dimensional restricted Lie algebra  has a strong implication on the structure of the cohomology ring H•(,) (Theorem D).

The subgradient, under strict efficiency, of a set-valued mapping is developed, and the existence of the subgradient is proved. Optimality conditions in terms of Lagrange multipliers for a strictly efficient point are established in the general case and in the case with ic-cone-convexlike data.

The object of this paper is to develop and study group theoretic analogues of some of the fundamental concepts and results of arithmetic functions of positive integers.

This paper study nearly extremal Cohen–Macaulay and Gorenstein algebras and characterise them in terms of their minimal free resolutions. Explicit bounds on their graded Betti numbers and their multiplicities are obtained.

For a prime p and integers a and b, we consider Salié sums

where χ2(x) is a quadratic character and x¯ is the modular inversion of x, that is, xx¯≡ 1 (mod p). One can naturally associate with Sp (a, b) a certain angle θp(a, b) ∈ [0, π]. We show that, for any fixed ε > 0, these angles are uniformly distributed in [0, π] when a and b run over arbitrary sets , ℬ ⊆ {0, 1, …, p − 1} such that there are at least p1+ε quadratic residues modulo p among the products ab, where (a, b) ∈  × ℬ.

Using a dual variational method which we develop, we show the existence and stability of solutions for a family of Dirichlet problems k = 0, 1,… in a bounded domain in ℝN and with the nonlinearity satisfying some general growth conditions. The assumptions put on v are satisfied by p(x)-Laplacian operators.

In this paper, a new type of generalised convexity—semilocal E-convexity is introduced by combining the concepts of the semi-E-convexity in X.S. Chen [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 275(2002), 251–262] and semilocal convexity in G.M. Ewing [SIAM. Rev. 19(1977), 202–220], and some of its basic characters are discussed. By utilising the new concepts, we derive some optimality conditions and establish some duality results for the inequality constrained optimisation problem.

We prove that the first order Riesz transforms associated to the Laguerre semigroup are weak-type (1, 1). We also present a counterexample showing that for the Riesz transforms of order three or higher the weak type (1, 1) estimate fails.

Suppose that H is a closed subgroup of a locally compact group G. We show that a unitary representation U of H is the restriction of a unitary representation of G if and only if a dual representation Û of a crossed product C*(G) ⋊ (G/H) is regular in an appropriate sense. We then discuss the problem of deciding whether a given representation is regular; we believe that this problem will prove to be an interesting test question in non-Abelian duality for crossed products of C*-algebras.
