The registers of the medieval archbishops of Armagh are a uniquely important source for medieval Irish church history. They are the only thing in Ireland even remotely comparable to English diocesan registers, though the differences are at least as important as the similarities. They are the property of the diocese of Armagh and are currently kept at the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland, although there have been proposals to move them to the Armagh Public (Robinson) Library. The Irish Manuscripts Commission has undertaken to print all of them in extenso and so far two volumes have appeared under their auspices. However, one register was published several years ago and there are calendars available of the others. The details are given below.
