The risk factors associated with burnout in general medicine remain poorly understood. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to identify the risk factors involved. General physicians (GPs) (n = 84) responded to a three-part questionnaire focusing on personal and professional data, and the Maslach Burnout Inventory. The results indicated that the type of practice was not a risk factor for burnout. However, emotional isolation, but not isolation in the workplace, constituted a risk factor. Particular attention should be paid to the individual characteristics of GPs.
