Summary

I do the best I know how; the very best I can; and I mean to keep doing so until the end. If the end brings us out wrong ten thousand angels swearing I was right will not make any difference.

– Abraham Lincoln, speaking of his leadership in the Civil War

We have seen that there is reason to believe that military history – particularly traditional versions – is under threat. Although military historians have effectively raised the status of military history as a matter of public concern, there has been less attention to the role of the military in security studies programs. We now turn our attention to the status of military history and the military in security studies programs.
