Summary
INTRODUCTION
The list presents a summary of or, in certain cases of rare species, all the published information on every species for which there has been an acceptable county record since scientific recording began and the sequence and nomenclature are those recommended by K.H. Voous in his List of Recent Holarctic Species (1977).
For each bird this information is presented in three main sections: Pre 1934
This section is drawn mainly from Lack's The Birds of Cambridgeshire (1934), augmented by the writings of Leonard Jenyns together with A.H. Evans' list of avifauna in Marr and Shipley (1904). This information is included since these sources are no longer readily available. The sources are given in square brackets after each record, although many records are to be found in more than one of the above.
1934-1969
In this period the information is based on the records published by the Cambridge Bird Club in their annual reports and the various articles and papers that augment them including a further list by A.H. Evans in the Victoria County History of Cambridgeshire (1938).
Present Status (1970-1987), Breeding Status and Ringing Results, (where relevant)
This section, which is preceded by a short status summary, is also drawn mainly from the reports of the Cambridge Bird Club augmented by information in the scientific literature resulting from individually, or nationally, organised investigations.
