Summary

Most worthy syr.

Mr. Treuennar Roscarocke found in the library of Oxford a story of a certaine Christian and his wife who came out of Ireland with theire Children, to fly the persecution, and lived in Cornwall; and after some tyme both he and his wife with theire Children suffered martyrdome in Cornwall, and in their honour were faire churches dedicated. Some of the names of these saints (as wee suppose) were these as follow: S. Eissye, S. Miluer, S. Cue, S. Einerdar, S. Eue, S. Maubin, S. Breage, S Earwin, S. Merrine, etc.; these I say are some of the supposed names of the saints; they were about 20 at the least; the story at large Mr. Roscarocke wrote, and keeping noe coppy of it, sent it to his Brother Mr. Nicholas Roscarocke who lived and dyed at my Lord William Howards house in the north.

Now some worthy Catholikes of Cornwall being desirous to vnderstand the full story, to the end they maye the better honour these saints of their Country, besought me to write into the North about this, and to gett out of Mr. Nicholas Roscarocks writtings this story, they knowing that he was wount to compile togeather such monuments for future memorye. I did soe, and I was answered by a good Gentleman, a Freinde of mine and who actually lived in the house, that Sir William Hoard, my Lord Williams son, had Mr. Nicholas Roscarrocks written booke and papers, and that he could giue me some light of it; and as they write vnto mee, would most willingly pleasure my Country men in this holy desire of theires. Wherefore worthy syr I shall humble intreate you for Gods sake, and for the honours of these glorious [sai?]nts martyrs, to deal efficatiously with syr William Hoard [to make?] me a coppy of this story for our comforts, and we [shall be?] alwayes obleidged to pray for yours and syr Williams [good estate in?] this worlde and in the next.

Your seruant to his power,

F. Webbe.
