Summary

He lived in the late sixth century bce, he was a prophet, and his name was Haggai. That is all we know about a figure who played one of the most pivotal roles in Judah’s history. As we will see, it was his exhortations, not an edict of the empire, that laid the foundation of the temple and paved the way for the dramatic developments of the post-destruction period.
