Summary
Each subsequent chapter on the six higher specialties (Chapters 4–9) goes through the recommended evidence for the HLOs in sequence. It is worth mentioning here that for applicants without an MRCPsych the portfolio is required to cover core competences as well. What that means in practice is that the applicant must submit two to three cases each of specialties they are not applying for within adult psychiatry, old age psychiatry and one of the neurodevelopmental specialties (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) or intellectual disability). That is, an adult psychiatry applicant needs to provide cases for old age and intellectual disability/CAMHS, and a forensic psychiatry applicant needs to submit cases for old age, adult and intellectual disability/CAMHS.
