Summary

When Lynn went into her daughter Emily’s messy bedroom to look for a magazine, she smelled the distinct odor of marijuana. After a quick look around, she found a sandwich bag of marijuana, a couple of joints, and rolling papers. She knew her daughter had tried marijuana before but thought it was only an occasional thing at parties. This stash looked a little more serious, and Lynn wondered if she should be worried. When asked about her use, Emily argued that everyone in her high school either smoked pot, vaped cannabis, or was lying. She insisted that her mom should be happy she’d never tried the hard stuff, like some kids were using. Lynn checked with the mothers of her daughter’s two best friends and heard the same story. She decided to trust that Emily was telling the truth about kids her age. Both of Emily’s friends were doing well academically and one was on the volleyball team, so Lynn felt there was no use in arguing.
