Review process

This journal uses a double-anonymised model of peer review. Neither author nor reviewers know the identity of each other.

Anonymity during peer review

Signs and Society operates on a double-anonymous peer review policy, with both authors and reviewers remaining anonymous throughout the peer review process. See the Preparing your materials page for further guidance on how to anonymise your manuscript.

Peer review process and timelines

All submissions to Signs and Society are treated confidentially. Upon submission, a manuscript is desk-reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief and, if considered appropriate for review, is sent out to a minimum of two reviewers. Signs and Society’s reviewers are asked to provide objective recommendations, and also to declare, prior to acceptance of invitation, if there is a conflict of interest with any aspect of the manuscript. The journal strives to respond to all authors’ inquiries in a timely manner. Typically, authors can expect to receive peer review feedback within 3 months. Final decisions about acceptance, revision, and rejection rest with the Editor-in-Chief.

Appeals

To appeal an editorial decision, please contact the Editors-in-Chief (sas@hufs.ac.kr) and specify the reason for your appeal.

Your appeal will be reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief and/or the Deputy Editor and one (or more) Associate Editor(s) who did not review the manuscript originally. The final decision regarding your appeal will rest with the journal’s Editor-in-Chief and/or Deputy Editor.
