Extract

The “Arapaima,” “Pirarucú” or “Pirá-Urucú,” of the large rivers of Brazil and the Guianas is the largest strictly freshwater fish known. It is said to reach a length of 15 feet, and a weight of more than 400 lbs. It is known to science under the name of Arapaima gigas (Cuvier).
