Oxford Instruments plc Enters the FTSE 250

The FTSE Index Company has announced that Oxford Instruments plc, a leading provider of high-technology tools and systems for industry and research, has been promoted to the FTSE 250 index. Oxford Instruments plc said that it would remain highly focused on sustaining shareholder value and achieving its new three-year plan to target 14% annual revenue growth and ROS of 14% by 2014.

DigiPath Licenses Olympus Digital Pathology Patents

DigiPath, Inc® and Olympus America Inc. have entered into a nonexclusive worldwide agreement allowing DigiPath and its OEM partners to access an extensive portfolio of Olympus patents in the field of virtual microscopy and digital pathology. The patents involved in the licensing agreement cover methods, software, and technology for creating, storing, and delivering virtual microscopy images. Virtual microscope slides enable professionals to review images without handling traditional glass slides and to share digital microscope images electronically.

VSG and Xradia Sign Joint Partnership Agreement to Provide 3D Imaging and Analysis Solutions

VSG, Visualization Sciences Group, and Xradia Inc. announced they have signed an OEM partnership agreement. Xradia will offer VSG's Avizo Fire software as their primary product offering for high-end 3D visualization and analysis in conjunction with the company's 3D X-ray imaging solutions. The offering enables fast analysis and modeling of Xradia's 3D imaging solutions for computed tomography at submicron and nanometer levels of resolution.

Nanounity and Topcon Announce Partnership

Nanounity announces that it has entered into an agreement with Topcon to distribute their Aquila Hybrid Scope in the U.S. The Aquila is a compact scanning electron microscope (SEM) combined with a light optical microscope, capable of microanalysis with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) that brings the strength of all three techniques together in a compact design. Carl Zeiss MicroImaging Donates a Microscope to UMass Labs for the Worcester High School Program

Carl Zeiss MicroImaging announced that it donated a $5,000 state-of-the-art microscope for use in the UMass Labs for the Worcester Area High Schools program, which allows advanced placement biology students from public high schools and technical schools in and around Worcester, Massachusetts, to visit and learn from scientists in UMass Medical School laboratories. The microscope includes a monitor that allows small groups of students to observe the specimen simultaneously.

Agilent Technologies Publishes New Vacuum Products Catalog

Agilent Technologies Inc. announced publication of the latest edition of its Vacuum Products Catalog. This 520-page compendium features 3,850 products and accessories, plus application and technical notes. Agilent's Vacuum Products Division serves customers in research and development, particle accelerators, mass spectrometry and other scientific instrumentation, nanotechnology, and industrial vacuum processes. Omniprobe Joins Oxford Instruments

Omniprobe has been acquired by UK-based Oxford Instruments Group. An Additional Patent Licensed for PAL-M Super-Resolution Technology

Carl Zeiss MicroImaging announces that the United States Patent and Trademark Office granted Dr. Eric Betzig and Dr. Harald Hess an additional patent for their invention of super-resolution localization microscopy. In 2007, Carl Zeiss received the exclusive rights to market this technology. U.S. Patent 7,864,314, published January 4, 2011, expands the patent protection to systems and methods using separation by photo-optical transformation of molecules between different energy states.

Free Online Library of Cell Images Wins “The Labby”

The Cell: An Image Library, is an online library of cellular images freely available to biomedical researchers, educators, and the general public. It celebrated its one-year anniversary on August 9, 2011 by winning The Scientist's Readers' Choice Award for favorite website. The Cell has more than 3,000 searchable images and has attracted 65,000 visits from 157 countries. It was created by ASCB in collaboration with Glencoe Software and the Open Microscopy Environment.

Asylum Research Installs First Cypher™ AFM in China

Asylum Research announced that it has installed the first Cypher AFM system in China at the South China Normal University in Guangzhou. Cypher, the world's fastest high-resolution AFM, was installed in the lab of Professor Xingsen Gao at the SCNU Institute for Advanced Materials by personnel from Asylum Research and Grapes Hangzhou Technology Co. Ltd, Asylum's representative in China. Professor Gao's group will use the Cypher system to investigate advanced piezoelectric, ferroelectric, and multiferroic materials.
