Edmund Optics® offers its TECHSPEC® Variable Magnification Telecentric Lenses. Featuring a telecentric design throughout their entire magnification range, these versatile lenses offer a compact, cost-effective solution for replacing standard fixed focal length lenses. The lenses are available in 0.5× to 1.0× and 1.0× to 3.0× options and feature resolutions of >20% at 75 lp/mm across fields-of-view ranging from 2.93 to 17.96 mm. An adjustable iris allows for depth-of-field control.

New Appointments Support at TESCAN

TESCAN USA Inc. has named Bob Rametta their director of customer support and Frank Marshall their national service manager for North America. Rametta brings to TESCAN-USA a vast knowledge of electron microscopy and a passion for supporting customers in the world of nanotechnology. Frank Marshall founded and became president of Excel Service Solutions, a service provider to customers who owned AMRAY SEMs. Marshall joined TESCAN USA in 2012 in the position of assistant service manager.

Park Systems Announces Revolutionary Auto Mode for AFM

SmartScan with its simple point-and-click auto mode AFM imaging and digital cameras will make a significant difference in atomic force microscopy. The auto mode feature eliminates the time-consuming steps of moving the Z scanner down to the sample, approaching the tip a few nanometers above it without crashing, and calculating the optimum scan speed. Leica Microsystems’s STED Super-Resolution Microscope for its Innovative Technology

The Scientist magazine has chosen the Leica TCS SP8 STED 3X as one of the Top 10 Innovations 2014 that will change the way life scientists work. An independent jury of experts from science and industry selected the latest generation of Leica Microsystems’s super-resolution microscopes. Renishaw Receives Queen’s Award for Spectroscopy Developments

Dame Janet Trotter, Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Gloucestershire, presented Renishaw with its seventeenth Queen’s Award. This prestigious award was granted for the continuous development of the company’s inVia Raman microscope, with ultra-fast Raman imaging, which enables the rapid generation of high-definition 2D and 3D chemical images for material analysis. This Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2014, granted in the Innovations category, is the first to recognize Renishaw’s achievements outside of the field of industrial metrology.

Nikon and JEOL Announce Partnership

Nikon Instruments, Inc. is pleased to announce a strategic partnership between Nikon and JEOL to research and develop solutions to address correlative light and electron microscopy. Andor Launches KOMET 7

Andor Technology announced the release of Komet 7 and Komet 7-GLP, their latest versions of the original Komet software. Komet software allows the capture and analysis of images from The Comet Assay. The assay permits the quantification of DNA damage and repair in single cell preparations and is applicable to any eukaryotic cell. The assay can be used in both in vitro and in vivo testing and has been shown to be a powerful and sensitive predictor of genetic toxicity.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Opens New Facility in Fremont, CA

Local area leaders joined Thermo Fisher Scientific in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Niche Diagnostics Center of Excellence, which will be home to more than 500 employees. More than 60 scientists work in the Research and Development (R&D) laboratory at Thermo Fisher Scientifics’s new Niche Diagnostics Center of Excellence in Fremont, CA. They create new, innovative technologies and develop diagnostic products for drugs of abuse testing and therapeutic drug monitoring.

RISE Microscopy Chosen as 2015 Prism Award Finalist

RISE Microscopy has been nominated for a 2015 Photonics Prism Awards, which honors the best new photonic products on the market and are presented each year by SPIE and Photonics Media. RISE microscopy is a correlative microscopy technique combining the chemical analysis power of Raman imaging with the ultra-structural characterization capabilities of a scanning electron microscope in an integrated system. It is a joint development of WITec and the Czech electron microscope manufacturer Tescan.

Olympus Hosts Tech Day at Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History

The event was held at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History’s (NMNH) Q?rius (pronounced curious) exhibit, an interactive and experimental learning space, as part of an initiative to bring solutions and technology to expert institutions. Olympus is supporting the comprehensive 10,000-square-foot Q?rius exhibit with a donation more than 50 microscopes and imaging systems that enables museum visitors, along with remote participants, to access research objects in the Smithsonian NMNH’s collection.

3-D EM Simulation Platform

Keysight Technologies Inc. introduced the latest release of Electromagnetic Professional (EMPro) software, its 3D electromagnetic simulation software. EMPro 2015.01 offers many new capabilities to reduce simulation time and increase design efficiency. The most notable enhancement in EMPro 2015.01 is a speed improvement to its finite element method (FEM) simulator that reduces by half, on average, the time it takes for simulations that exceed 2 min. Furthermore, the simulator now features improved FEM mesh performance and efficiency for large designs.

New Industry Collaboration

CoolLED Limited, a manufacturer of LED fluorescence illumination products, announced that Prior Scientific, specialists in scientific instrumentation, microscope automation, and optical microscopy has chosen CoolLED as their OEM partner in a collaborative enterprise to satisfy Prior’s customers’ requirements for LED illumination.
