We’re delighted to announce that all research articles accepted for publication in the International Journal of Asian Studies from 20th July 2023 will be ‘open access’; published with a Creative Commons license and freely available to read online (see the journal's Open Access Options page for available license options). The costs of open access publication will be covered through agreements between the publisher and the author’s institution, payment of APCs by funding bodies, or else waived entirely, ensuring every author can publish and enjoy the benefits of OA.

The International Journal of Asian Studies (IJAS) is an interdisciplinary, English-language forum for research in the humanities and social sciences. Its purpose is to foster multi-directional communication in the global Asian studies community. IJAS examines Asia as a region, emphasizing patterns and tendencies that go beyond the borders of individual countries. The Editors welcome theoretical and empirical research, including interdisciplinary approaches that cross methodological boundaries, comparative perspectives that draw on data from multiple regions, and the development of new methodologies. The committee encourages submissions from Asian studies researchers globally, and especially welcomes the opportunity to introduce the work of Asian scholars to an English-language readership.
IJAS is published by Cambridge University Press in association with the Institute for Advanced Studies on Asia, University of Tokyo.

Important notice

We have become aware that websites such as University Press Journals, Association of British University Presses and International Agency for Development of Culture, Education and Science (IADCES) are claiming to offer publication in certain Cambridge University Press journals for a fee. We do not work with such companies.

Submissions to Cambridge University Press journals can only be made via the online peer review systems linked to from this Cambridge Core website, or else directly to the editorial offices of those journals that do not operate online peer review systems. Under no circumstances will IJAS request authors to make payments, other than designated Open Access charges, and any such request should be treated as fraudulent.
