Open access options

This journal is a wholly open access journal, which means all articles are published as Gold Open Access under a Creative Commons licence. This enables anyone to access and redistribute the content and, depending upon the licence, re-use the content in new or derivative works with attribution. The terms of re-use for Gold Open Access content are stated in the copyright line of the article.

The Creative Commons licence offered by this journal for Gold Open Access articles is CC BY.

Waiver policies

Cambridge University Press operates several waiver policies, as described below. It should be noted that the decision to accept a paper for publication will rest solely with the Editor, and without reference to the funding situation of the authors. The Editor, editorial board members, and reviewers will have no involvement with the billing of APCs and cannot grant waivers.

Developing country waiver policy

Cambridge University Press operates waiver policies in line with other leading publishers. We grant 100% waivers to papers whose corresponding authors are based in Research4Life 'Group A' countries and 50% waivers to those who are based in 'Group B' countries.

Discretionary waiver policy

The author(s) must request a waiver at or before submission, before an article enters editorial consideration by filling out this form.

Article Type Waivers

Waivers will be automatically granted for all relevant article types.

Other routes to open access

Under this journal’s Green Open Access policy, authors can make pre-published versions of their articles available in institutional or other repositories, or on their personal or departmental websites, under certain conditions. This allows authors to comply with the open access mandates of many funders and institutions before the final article is published as Gold Open Access. For more information, please see Cambridge University Press’s Green Open Access policy page, where you can download a spreadsheet with full details about which versions of articles authors can post online, and where and when authors can post them.

If you have open access questions which are not answered by our policy pages and resources, please contact openresearch@cambridge.org.

Social Sharing

This journal participates in Cambridge Core Share, an initiative that allows a read-only version of a final published PDF (the Version of Record) to be shared and easily accessed by anyone. Core Share links, and Core Share PDFs containing the links, can be freely shared on social media sites and scholarly collaboration networks to enhance both the impact and discoverability of research.

Preprint policy

A preprint is an early version of an article prior to the version accepted for publication in a journal. This journal allows preprints to be posted anywhere at any time, including before submission to the journal. For more information, see the Cambridge University Press preprint policy.

Open Access is the practice of making published research freely accessible to all. Whilst there are a number of mechanisms for making this content freely available, the Gold open access model used by Experimental Results requires that the published 'version of record' be made freely available to all immediately upon publication. As no subscriptions are sold to view the content, such open access journals are typically financially supported through an article processing charge (APC) levied on the submitting author's institution or funding body.

For more information about Open Access at Cambridge University Press, see our Cambridge Open pages.

Benefits of open access with Experimental Results

·         Visibility: Articles are freely available online immediately upon publication, giving the potential for increased exposure and dissemination.

·         Accessibility: Gold open access allows all readers with internet access around the world to access published research without having to pay for a subscription.

·         Quality: All submissions will be fully peer-reviewed, with acceptance decisions being made by an international Editorial Board independently of the Publisher.

Open Access publishing in Experimental Results is funded through levying an article processing charge (APC) on each individual author's institution or funding body upon acceptance of the manuscript. There are no extra submission or figure charges.

An APC will apply to all accepted papers, with a waiver scheme for eligible countries - see waiver policy for more details. Authors who have carried out a peer review will be able to claim £150 discount on the APC, up to a maximum of 2 peer reviews (i.e. a maximum discount of £300) - if you are eligible, please indicate this in the relevant section of ScholarOne when submitting your paper.

The decision to accept an article for publication will rest solely with the Editors, and without reference to the funding situation of the authors.

Please note: APC collection is managed by RightsLink, who will contact authors following acceptance of their article.

Read and Publish deals

Cambridge University Press has made a number of Read and Publish agreements to support Open Access publishing in Cambridge journals for publicly financed research articles. Read and Publish deals are an alternative to the traditional subscription model. When an institution has a Read and Publish deal with Cambridge, authors from that institution can publish Gold open access in Cambridge journals. The ‘Publish’ element of the deal provides the APC payment in this instance.

When submitting to Experimental Results, don’t forget to check if your institution has a Read and Publish deal with the Press. Further information on the Read and Publish deals agreed with Cambridge can be found here.

Copyright Information

The policy of Experimental Results is that authors (or in some cases their employers) retain copyright and grant [journal owner] a non-exclusive licence to publish their work. Authors must complete and return an author publishing agreement form as soon as their article has been accepted for publication; the journal is unable to publish the article without this. Please download the appropriate publishing agreement here.

The form also sets out the Creative Commons licence under which the article is made available to end users: a fundamental principle of open access is that content should not simply be accessible but should also be freely re-usable. Articles will be published under a Creative Commons Attribution license (CC-BY). This means that the article is freely available to read, copy and redistribute, and can also be adapted (users can “remix, transform, and build upon” the work) for any commercial or non-commercial purpose, as long as proper attribution is given.
