Recent studies confirmed that theimage of psychiatry in the eyes of the general public as well as of the medicalprofession is poor. Psychiatry is oftenconsidered as a discipline of little use and its contributions to theimprovement of public health negligible and those who practise it are seen asbeing closer to alternative medicine than to scientific evidence basedmedicine.

The presentation will discuss someof the recent findings and propose ways in which the image of psychiatry couldbe improved.
