Bipolar disorder may coexists with cognitive deficits, which may be the one of the core symptoms of the disease. Additional, independent organic changes in the brain may appear, which still deteriorate the cognitive and social function of a patient. The objective of our study was to show how the above impairments disorder influenced patient's life quality. 57-year treated psychiatrically for bipolar disorder was described. During his treatment and diagnostics it turned out that he also suffered from dementia and progressing cognitive impairment.

Our case report shows that there exists the dependence between the deterioration of the cognitive impairment caused by the bipolar disorder and increasing level of the patient's quality of life. The result of our investigation is consistent with a number of other studies connected with cognitive functioning in patient with bipolar disease.
