Language Teaching and Literacy: Introductory Essay

Published online by Cambridge University Press:  19 November 2008

Extract

All of the papers in this section have a great deal more to say about the teaching of English to non-native speakers than about literacy, which is discussed primarily within the context of teaching regional languages in multilingual societies. Two contexts are represented in the discussions of English teaching: either English functions as the dominant language in the society, or it is one of the major languages in a multilingual society.
