Summary

While the previous chapter focused on presenting theoretical ingredients for organizing collective memory, this chapter provides a case study of what is known about the content, structure, and functions of social representations of world history (SRWH) today. This grounds theorizing about collective memory as an open system in the specific context of the global era from about 1997 to 2020. It provides empirical data from individuals worldwide that is useful in not only characterizing this era from the bottom-up, but also provides clues for what might be the central core and peripheral elements for SRWH, as well as its blind spots.
