The Bram Fischer Waltz

Summary
All the action takes place in a cell in the Pretoria Local Prison. The cell, 3.5 x 2.5 metres, stands in the middle of the stage. On the left [OP] is a poster of Bram as a baby, with his grandfather and father. On the right is a photograph of the actor playing Bram against the background of a red wall decorated with a hammer and sickle. In the cell there is a bed. [OP], a stool [centre stage] and a lectern.
The stage is a black box. The cell has walls made of bars 2.5 metres high. There are bars between the audience and the actor for the entire first scene. The bars fold open during the first blackout to make up the side walls and are folded back during the last blackout, once again forming a barrier between the audience and the actor. Costumes and props are all hidden under the bed.
