Summary

As with the previous volume in this series, bothbibliography proper and indexes to it are presentedin one volume for ease of consultation. Once again,we have used the ArthurianBibliographical Bulletin (BBSIA) as oursource material, re-keying the data into an Excelspreadsheet which enabled the indexing to becompleted efficiently. While we have tried to ensurethat the bibliography is as accurate as possible, weare to a large extent dependent on the BBSIA, and cannot guaranteethat it is totally free of errors. We have attemptedto maintain some consistency across the volume inmethods of citation, and to standardise forms ofreference; unfortunately each new volume of theBBSIA has its ownindividual way of referring to titles, authors andso on, and we apologise for any remaininginconsistencies in this respect.

How to use the AuthorIndex

Each entry has its own number, by which it iscross-referenced and indexed.

The items are arranged in alphabetical order; as far aspossiblemultiple entries for one person runchronologically. Titles (Dr, Professor, etc.) havebeen largely omitted. Items are referenced by theauthor in the case of secondary literature; foreditions and translations of primary texts, they areagain usually located by author, rather than byeditor, though in most cases a cross-reference hasbeen given to any editor or translator.

In the case of books, after the name of the author, thetitle is given, followed by the series (if any), andthe place and date of publication.

For articles in journals and periodicals, the title isgiven, followed by the name of the periodical; thevolume number; the year; and the page numbers (thesein particular have not always been given by oursource, and though every effort has been made totrace them, it has not always been possible). Thename of the periodical in most cases is abbreviated, and a list of abbreviations precedes the listing. The abbreviations for different journals havechanged slightly in the course of the years, andrather than standardise to their currentincarnation, we have kept themas originally given;the variant abbreviations are given in the list.
