S-700. LABARRAQUE, Antoine Germain, 1777-1850.

The present essay appears to be a translation of part of Labarraque's treatise on disinfectants and disinfection published at Paris in 1825 under the title: De l’emploi des chlorures d’oxide de sodium et de chaux. An English translation of the larger work was published at London in 1826. The American Jacob Porter (1783-1846) translated this same work under the title: Instructions and observations concerning the use of the chlorides of soda and lime (New Haven, 1829). The sevenpage Method of using the chloride of soda was first published at New Haven, Conn. in 1830. The wording of the text clearly indicates that the audience of this pamphlet was not intended to be limited to the medical profession.

The paper covered boards have the edition statement & imprint: 42e mille. Nouvelle édition. Montréal: Librairie Granger frères, 1912. First published at Montreal in 1888, Lachapelle's juvenile hygiene was also translated into English and published at Montreal in 1891 under the title: Manual of hygiene for the use of school amd family. This was the only edition of Lachenmaier's manual of personal hygiene. The author was the proprietor of the Lachenmaier School of Health (Milwaukee), offering courses in dietetics, physical culture, exercise therapy, and mind culture. Frontispiece portrait of the author.
