“The Ideal Eye Masseur is an ingenious mechanical device … by use of which Massage of the Eyes is accomplished in a more perfect manner than by means of the fingers or any other known method. The Masseur fits the eyes over the closed eyelids, and is held in position by mere atmospheric pressure … It is applied either night or morning for from one to two minutes, or as the strength of the eyes will permit. The eyeballs are thus gently massaged and the nerve centers strengthened, conditions absolutely necessary for good vision. Its use will preserve, strengthen, and restore sight. It will restore normal vision in nearsight, farsight, astigmatism and presbyopia, or failure of sight from any cause, provided the eye is not the subject of organic disease” (p. 19). The Ideal Eye Masseur not only corrects errors of accommodation and refraction, but causes the “absorption and excretion of the morbid products,” and the removal of “diseased tissues and impure materials,” that cause cataract, glaucoma, inflammations of the eye, etc. Cover-title: The eyes: their care, their ills, their cure. The Illustrated annual of phrenology, and health almanac continues the Illustrated annual of phrenology and physiognomy. It appears to have first been published with the 1877 issue. The issues of of both almanacs published between 1874 and 1883 were combined in one volume and published in 1884 under the title: The Illustrated annuals of phrenology and health almanacs (#1881).
