Summary
Our closest guide to how Homer and his audience might have visualised the death of Achilles is the surviving summary of the Aethiopis, which was the next epic in the sequence of the Cycle and is usually dated as early as late seventh century BCE.1 In outline, at least, its account dovetails with with the prophecies and foreshadowings in the Iliad.
