Summary
When Achilles spoke to the three emissaries, revealing so much of his inner life – his loneliness, his loathing of war, his knowledge that the price of glory would be an early death – his thoughts were also full of affection, a young man’s longing for his father and a lover’s bond with a woman who has become like a wife to him. Now with Patroclus dead, and dead because Achilles sent him out to fight, all his passion and energy will settle on that one love alone.
