Summary
Counter-roll of John of Broughton, controller of the king's works at the palace of Westminster and the Tower of London, for his expenditure on building works at Westminster, with payments dating from 30 Sept. 1339 to 26 July 1340. The calendar corresponds to the period between Michaelmas 1339 and Michaelmas 1340, which is Exchequer year 14 Edward III, according to the usual calculation of such years in these accounts. The headings may, therefore, be mistaken.
Physical description: A roll of five membranes, sewn end-to-end; in good condition and wholly legible. Additional heading on m. 1d, acting as a label.
Scope of transcription: Entries relating to the chaplains’ house, a storehouse for the timber of St Stephen's chapel and the tracing house of the master mason.
