Dr. Babu Chalamala is Manager of the Energy Storage Technologies and Systems Department at Sandia National Laboratories. Before joining Sandia, he was a Corporate Fellow at MEMC Electronic Materials, where he led their energy storage systems efforts. Earlier, he was in startups commercializing lithium batteries and x-ray sources. He started his career at Texas Instruments and Motorola. He is an IEEE Fellow and vice chair of the IEEE PES Energy Storage and Stationary Battery Committee. He received his B.Tech. in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Sri Venkateswara University and his Ph.D. degree in Physics from the University of North Texas.

Dr. Vincent Sprenkle is the Chief Scientist in the Electrochemical Materials and Systems Group at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), focusing on development for advanced energy storage and power conversion. He is also project manager for the Department of Energy’s Office of Electricity Energy Storage Program at PNNL, focusing on the development of electrochemical energy storage technologies to enable renewable integration and improve grid support. Before joining PNNL, he was a senior ceramic engineer at Litton Life Support. Dr. Sprenkle holds 25 patents on fuel cells and batteries. He has a Ph.D. in Ceramic Engineering from University of Missouri Rolla.

Dr. Imre Gyuk is Director of the Energy Storage Program at the US Department of Energy. For the past 12 years, he has directed the Electrical Energy Storage research program in the Office of Electricity. He received his B.S. in Physics from Fordham University and received a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from Purdue University. His work in energy storage has won 11 R&D 100 Awards and the Tibbetts Award from the Small Business Administration. He received the Phil Symons Award from the Energy Storage Association and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association of Battery Manufacturers.

Dr. Ralph D. Masiello is Senior Advisor at Quanta Technology. Using his experience in the early applications of modern control and estimation theory, he developed Smart Grid roadmaps for several US Independent System Operators as well as the California Energy Commission. Dr. Masiello also served as the General Manager of ABB Systems Control. Dr. Masiello is a Life Fellow of the IEEE and Member of the US National Academy of Engineering. He received the 2009 IEEE Power Engineering Concordia Award for Power System Engineering. He earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Electrical Engineering.

Dr. Raymond Byrne is Manager of the Power Systems Department at Sandia National Laboratories. For the last ten years, his work has focused on optimal control of energy storage to maximize benefit to the grid and grid integration of renewables. In 2016, he received the Prize Paper Award at the 2016 Power and Energy Society General Meeting. Ray has a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, and an M.S. in Financial Mathematics. He has been chair of the Albuquerque IEEE section multiple times. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and recipient of the IEEE Millennium Medal.
