Summary

Z-Cars (n.): police series. Z Cars (Martin 1963: title). ‘Remember the old TV series Z-Cars? That was all based in Kirkby’ (Dudgeon 2010: 312). Recorded from l.20c.; Z-Cars (1962–78) was based in ‘Newtown’ (Kirkby); it was notable both for its northern setting and its social realist depiction of modern policing.
