Summary
Introduction
This chapter examines monetary unions in Africa. These monetary unions are primarily in Central and West Africa. There are three of them: the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC); the West African Economic and Monetary Zone (UEMOA); and the West Africa Monetary Zone (WAMZ). This chapter discusses each of these experiments in monetary union in Africa and briefly appraises progress made in each of these groups.
