Summary
This section focuses on the geopolitical aspects of health and health inequalities, and the health-related issues of migrants entering the UK and the demand on health services as a result of poor migration policies. The Care Act 2014 offered the potential to address health and social inequalities by refocusing care from a deficits to an assets approach. ‘Well-being’ was seen as a new organising principle. Despite the best intentions of the Care Act, the UK austerity economic planning is undermining the activities in the care and health sectors. The main agency for delivering health care, the National Health Service (NHS), has significant problems in addressing its aims due to increasing demands by the community, funding deficits and the need for organisational reform.
