Summary

Part 2 gives a clearer picture of the personalities of Katherine Kendall, the recipients of the award given in her name and the social work world that each was engaged with.

Chapter 4 presents a brief biography of Katherine Kendall. It outlines the career and achievements that led IASSW to create an award in her name to honour educators who have made significant contributions to international social work education.

Chapters 5-17 present the interviews with the thirteen awardees on which Chapters 2 and 3 in Part 1 are based. While Part 1 explored information about the awardees as a group, these biographical narratives give an opportunity to learn more about the people involved in these efforts. They grew up and received their education at different times, lived in different parts of the world and had different motives for engaging in social work and in advancing its international position. The hope is that, through their own words, they will emerge as the diverse and interesting people they are. The world of social work that they experienced during their careers and the possibilities that they see for the future are expressed more vibrantly in their own words than in any summary.
