Summary

Advances in prenatal imaging, including ultrasonography and fetal MRI, have allowed more accurate diagnosis of several structural fetal anomalies that put the newborn at risk for airway compromise immediately after birth. The EXIT procedure has enabled securing the airway and performing other fetal interventions in a controlled fashion, while still on placental support, thereby preventing life-threatening airway compromise after birth. This chapter will focus on the newer evolving indications, preoperative planning, anesthetic management, and strategies for fetal airway management during an EXIT procedure.
