Summary

Louis and Mary Leakey drew worldwide attention to Olduvai Gorge with their discoveries of the Olduvai Hominin (OH) 5 and OH 7 fossil remains. OH 5, a cranium representing the holotype of Paranthropus boisei, was found at the Frida Leakey Korongo (FLK) site in 1959 and assigned the genus name of Zinjanthropus, which is still used informally today (LS.B. Leakey, 1959). In 1960, OH 7, the holotype for Homo habilis, was found at the FLK North North (NN) site and consists of a mandible, two parietals and other cranial fragments, and hand bones (Leakey et al., 1964).
