In the preceding chapters we discussed transferring non-violent resistance (NVR), originally developed to fight oppression and violence at the sociopolitical level, to the family sphere. In this chapter we return to the social dimension and examine the implications of NVR for community programs. The issues in this chapter pertain to negative norms that have been adopted or are in danger of being adopted by groups of children. These norms include activities such as alcohol and drug parties, driving all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) without a license, group violence, and night-loitering for shady purposes. We shall also describe how NVR, under the denomination of constructive struggle, is being used to defuse tensions between police and ethnic minorities in Israel.
