Core and peat column samples were taken from the blanket peat which overlies and engulfs many of the archaeological features at Bharpa Carinish. Cores were taken at two locations (A and B), slightly downslope of the main excavated area (Fig. 2), in the nearest area of deep peat as determined by probing. It was thought that die pollen record from the peat here would have registered activity in the excavated area.
