The ninth session of the Economic and Social Council met in Geneva from July 5 to August 15, 1949. The Council took action on 50 agenda items, having decided to postpone consideration of the establishment of an Economic Commission for the Middle East, the report of the Transport and Communications Commission on inland transport in the Middle East, and the election of three members of the Economic Board for Palestine. One supplementary item was added to the agenda relating to the earthquake disaster in Ecuador on August 5, 1949.
